Useful Tips for Helping Your Feet Feel Better in High Heels by JD Hoopes
Most women have experienced finding that perfectly fabulous High Heel shoe. We hold it aloft dreaming of the outfits we would wear it with. Holding this high Heeled gem in our hands, we feel like a new, fabulous version of ourselves. However, we’ve also experienced wearing these Shoes that we thought would change our lives only to discover the tortured agony they bring to our feet.
Problems with high heels that don’t properly fit your feet range from simple concerns like bunions, corns, and calluses to more serious concerns like that excruciating pain in the ball of the foot that just seems to be getting worse.
Still, most women do not want to give up the glamorous look of high heels – even with tortured feet. Then what’s the answer? Doctors recommend taking a few simple precautions that will help you avoid many high-heel problems. You’ll also make the time you spend in that perfect pair of heels so much more enjoyable. Just like it should be.
First, find the best-fitting high heel possible. While this seems like a no-brainer, ask yourself this question. How many pairs of high heels do you own that cause your feet to slide to the front, leaving a gap behind your heel? Heels that don’t fit properly cause the front of the foot to cram forward. This creates unnecessary pressure and pain on your toes. To avoid this, just look for narrow heels with a snug, but not too tight, fit to correct the problem.
Remember to cushion your feet. After all, don’t they deserve a little special treatment since they are what you spend most of your day standing on? A full shoe insert can help, but investing in silicone metatarsal pads can help even more in relieving pain in the ball of the foot. This is especially helpful if your daily routine requires you to stand or be walking in your heels for a long time. Silicone pads are designed to absorb all the extra shock that would normally build up in your feet and legs. You should also wear a thicker heel for better balance and stability. By giving yourself a better platform for balance, pressure can be alleviated by equally distributing the weight on your foot. This way, no one part of your foot is bearing the brunt of the pressure and your foot is less likely to develop painful problem areas.
Also, notice the “pitch” or “slope” of the shoe. Some 4-inch heels will drop straight down to the bed of the shoe and others will have a more gradual slope. Having a gradual slope will likely relieve some pain in the ball of the foot and be easier on the arch.
Finally, don’t underestimate a pair of well-fitted open-toe high heels. Open-toe heels can help to alleviate pressure on corns and calluses. First, correct the problem that is causing corns and calluses, but in the meantime, choose open-toe heels to take pressure off the inflamed area.
Using these few tips and precautions, you can love your high heels for their fit as well as their look. A perfect relationship!

13 Going on 30 $14.99 13 Going on 30 — a romantic comedy about a misfit teen in 1987 who turns into a glamorous, successful adult in 2004 seemingly overnight — has a soundtrack that, appropriately enough, features 13 songs that span the ’80s to the 2000s. The album plays a little fast and loose with what a 13-year-old girl in 1987 would’ve actually listened to; three of the album’s best songs, the Go-Go’s’ “Head Over Heels,” Rick Springfield’s “Jesse’s Girl,” and Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House” are early-’80s classics, but seem like they’d be more likely found in the record collection of that 13-year-old’s older brother or sister. Similarly, Vanilla Ice’s 1990 guilty pleasure “Ice Ice Baby” comes from the years that the film’s heroine seems to have lost. Tracks from the first wave of boy bands, such as New Edition or New Kids on the Block, or college rock or synth pop from the soundtracks from any of the John Hughes films from the mid-’80s would’ve been more authentic, but nitpicking aside, songs like Madonna’s “Crazy for You,” Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love,” and Pat Benatar’s “Love Is a Battlefield” do more or less capture the era. As for the 21st century artists, Ingram Hill’s “Will I Ever Make It Home” doesn’t make much of an impression, but Lillix’s cover of “What I Like About You” is serviceable, not as authentically gritty as the Donnas but a lot less sugary than the teen pop that usually appears on this kind of soundtrack.
